What is the job about?

As a manager R&D you will manage a team of research & development professionals, overseeing projects and studies in order to investigate relationships, solve technical problems, and develop new solutions for a specific application or within a specific area of research. You will independently evaluate, select and apply standard engineering or scientific techniques, processes and criteria.

In this position you will lead the research & development team for the business unit LAC (Lube oil Additives and Chemicals). You will be responsible for developing and implementing the R&D strategy that supports the LAC Business Unit and enables it to grow. Regarding the project portfolio you are responsible from concept development to commercialization.

You will develop technical competence within the research & development team and you are responsible for designing the intellectual property (IP) strategy for continuous IP creation. As a manager you are the owner of the global R&D budget supporting the LAC division and you will report to the CEO.

You will have frequent and close contact with other internal departments to look at opportunities together and to implement your vision regarding the R&D department. Outside BRB you will build and manage an established scientific network at a global level. You do this by participating, among other things, in relevant working groups. You ensure that others know what BRB is working on and what we are capable of, and in this way you stay ahead of what other companies are undertaking.

The team

The team you will manage is based at our European R&D Center, located in the Netherlands. The team consists of currently of five colleagues. It is a multicultural team and the spoken language is English.

You have the ability to build strong working relationships within R&D, sales and customers. You understand the technical part but you are also able to see the commercial opportunities and challenges.

For the team, you are the manager they can always rely on. You coach our young ambitious team grow as individuals, but also as a team..

What else do you bring:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience, including project and people leadership experience in an international environment;
  • PhD or equivalent degree in the field of chemistry, tribology, material sciences, chemical engineering or equivalent;
  • Proficiency in English, both written and oral is essential, knowledge of the Dutch language is beneficial;
  • Excellent communication skills and cross collaboration spirit.
